January General Membership Meeting Information
The January General Membership Meeting will be held on the 19th of January from 7:30-9:00 PM. You can attend the meetings at First AME of Manassas at 10313 S. Grant Ave. or use the GoToMeeting information below. Click here for this month’s meeting agenda. The focus of this meeting will be on Community Coordination. An objective for 2016 is to bring together our partner organizations and develop a comprehensive advocacy agenda for the next 3, 5, and 10 years. Members of the PWC NAACP are the strongest advocates for our activities within our partner organizations, so come to the meeting to find out how you can engage with various organizations to promote our agenda.
The information below can be used to participate in the monthly PWC General Membership meeting using our GoToMeeting service. You will be able to listen to the meeting and see the presentation. Your microphones will be muted, so you will not be able to contribute to the conversation by talking. However, we will have someone monitoring the meeting chat channel, so you will be able to submit questions and comments. King Day of Action at the Virginia State Capitol Monday, January 18, 2016 beginning at 8:00am.
There are many events planned around the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We strongly encourage you to participate in these events. Of particular importance is the King Day of Action, which is being coordinated by Brown Virginia and conducted in collaboration with the Virginia State Conference (VSC) of the NAACP. This is a day of engagement and advocacy with our General Assembly around a legislative agenda to bring about equality and social justice. We desire to have at least 10 members of the PWC NAACP to participate in this event.Please see the attached flyer for more information. Within the next week we will provide a copy of the legislative agenda being developed by the VSC NAACP.

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Town Hall Meeting
Rev. George D. Carlisle, Pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church announces an Annual Community Town Hall Meeting from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. including a 15 minute intermission on January 17, 2016. The meeting will be conducted at Northern Virginia Baptist Center, 14019 Glenkirk Road, Gainesville Va.
The panel includes representatives from local clergy, NAACP, Prince William County Community Services-Mental Health, House of Mercy, Prince William County School Board, and local politicians that support Prince William County and surrounding counties and cities. The panel will also include members of law enforcement from Haymarket, the Cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County – – all coming together to bring awareness and discuss what matters in the community.
There will be a reception during registration from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and all participants are requested to arrive no later than 10:00 a.m.
It is hoped that this Town Hall provides residents with the beginning of a roadmap to building healthier, safer and thriving communities.

President’s Appeal for Involvement
Using as an example the Legal Redress Committee’s inventory of requests for assistance, President Brower made an appeal for greater involvement by the Unit members. Training Information from our Virginia State Conference of the NAACP
President Brower made the following comments while passing along the two items of information below:
“The attached information is provided from your Virginia State Conference (VSC) of the NAACP. The leadership of the VSC has put together this information in an effort to help keep the members of the NAACP informed of the things that are going on and to equip the members of the NAACP to more effectively engage in advocacy. I hope that with the review of this material you might be further energized to press for a more active unit in 2016. We need active members, committed to supporting at least one of our standing committees.

Item # 1: Carlton T. Mayers, II, Esq., Criminal Justice Manager, Criminal Justice Dept. NAACP National Headquarters provided this new Ban the Box video to promote its Ban the Box Initiative.
Item # 2: A Power Point training session by Mandla Deskins at the Virginia State Convention last week, which covered performing advocacy in the NAACP.
